Every year in Nana's class, they do a Book Brunch. It's a show case for parents to see how far their child has gone in language. It focuses on writing, proof reading, gathering information with group discussions on their topics - everything a real author would go through when they write a book. I'm always blown away. It takes months for them to do and the product is flawless. Parents take the morning off, the teachers in the school know what a big deal it is and let siblings come to see their sibling read! They do a good job of making these kiddos feel important and valued.
The teachers spend late nights typing the kids' stories, working with them on their art work and practice with them reading out loud. It is quite the production. They are grooming them to be confident, hard working and creative authors.
I look forward to this because last year...we had a blast. She loves reading. I mean, LOVES. She spends hours a day reading. She lies down in bed early just to read. Her imagination is endless and her creativity flows when she writes. I love all the words she uses. It makes me giggle when I read her writing because she is witty.
I love the art in her book! She did a wonderful job! I'm sad because as a 3rd year this is her last book brunch so I got a bit emotional but I'm crossing all my fingers and toes that my Mr. Loverkins gets in. They are amazing teachers. They are supportive and caring. They know her and come to me with little things like "she is improving every day in ___ subject" or "she said the funniest joke to me". The details of her personality are always brought to my attention that I know and they appreciate which indicates they truly love their job and love their kids. A parent couldn't ask for anything more than that.
There's another person reading their story in the background in another group. They have 4 groups set up so that parents can come in the morning to listen and it won't take all morning long. Then...my memory card was full. FAIL. Urgh but you get most of it. She did so well!
WE are so proud. She is the best 3rd Grader around.
