I hope my little lovey loved her special weekend and all those who made the special effort to make it a magical 10th birthday for her!
Grandpa Wade and Grandma Kim (Husband's Momma) came by Saturday night with a few of Isa's friends from her previous school some Orange Chicken (from Trader Joe's - no judging! Isa ♥s it!) - Chow Mein and Potstickers. Isa's favorite dinner staples. Everything about this weekend was a surprise - she had no idea until I told her an hour before that Grandpa Wade and Grandma Kim are coming over with some more very dear friends of hers! I didn't invite her old school friends Friday night because Isa's friend was having a birthday party the same night - so instead of making the girls choose we just opted to do something on a different night. It all worked out lovely. We had our hands full Friday night. It was a semi-quiet night celebrating.
Oh...the party didn't stop there! Sunday - our old neighbor, Kendie and Isa's friend, Izzie (who was sick with strep throat and couldn't make it to her surprise party) came over that morning and rocked it out on Guitar Hero and played until dinner time.
I had originally planned a birthday brunch but my sister, Gabby had a dance coaching class (sounds professional I know - my sister is hard core) so we had breakfast for dinner...you know my kids hated this?! SIKE! You already know they love themselves some breakfast for dinner!!
Um, no pictures of my brunch. Let me tell you why - my baking was not aligned with the stars or something. My total at the grocery store was $6.66 I should've known something bad was going to go down.
I baked Honey Whole Wheat Pound Cake that I've baked twice before and have had no issues. BUT - I forgot to a) put foil on the top so it'd bake thoroughly and not burn b) to put on my timer so I had no idea how long it'd been baking. I had my Aunt check on it and she said "it looks done" except I forgot to cover it with foil, remember? SO, it was burnt on top and raw in the middle. Sweet. I had my casserole in the bottom oven so when my Aunt turned off the oven she accidentally turned off the top oven too. I checked on the casserole consistently over the hour and hadn't noticed that it was off. SO, when I took it out - the eggs were sloshing around...uh - OOPS! THEN, I had send my poor Aunt to the store to pick up pound cake for our cake-sundaes (and a few of my Uncle's requests) plus she saved my sanity by bringing me coffee back, thank YOU - Aunty Andria!
I didn't even mention the Vanilla cupcakes that I tried (for the first time) that are nothing like anything I've ever baked. You fill it up and the cups just a 1/4 full - weird, right? So, those were a flop as well. I haven't had many baking failures lately but that took the cake (literally!).
We seriously have enjoyed this weekend with our big girl as tired and as much work as it was - it was a success! Her big girl room is almost made over - we are going to paint her dresser and wall very soon. I will (of course) post pictures when it's done (no before pictures though...I forgot!). We have X out pink and themed her big girl room TURQUOISE, GREEN AND PURPLE. More to come - stay tuned!
