I would like to address this because it's completely in my nature to do so. I LOVE it, really. And, it gives me the insight to our children's education - isn't that enough to want to be in the mix? Coming from last year with the Co-Op and being at the girls' old school all the time - this year I really miss it. Since I have Dev and Madi here; working in the classroom isn't ideal. But, behind the scene stuff is and I look for those opportunities when I can.
I have finally decided to take a role at our new school. It is so big I was intimidated to step up figuring everyone (especially the parents that have been there for the last 9 years) had their niche and my time would come sooner or later. Well, I picked sooner.
I read (for like the 3rd week) that they needed an EAACH rep for the school district in our Bear Facts Newsletter. It's basically a committee of parents representing each school in the district on issues of equity for all of our students. The focus is improving communication and outreach between schools/school district to improve equity of access to school programs and to improve student achievement.
From what I understand; it isn't too much commitment a meeting a month and be at the MIT (or PTA) meeting. Husband is in support. Here we go. I'm excited!

Good luck! I'm sure you'll like it =) I volunteer at my girls' school every Tues ALL day. Half the day w/my 3rd grdrs class & the 2nd, w/my Kinder. I love being there & seeing it all from behind the scenes! I help from time to time w/my 6 grdrs class too! It's interesting to see how a bunch of 10/11 yr olds act! =)
thanks, julie!! i was very invovled at their old school and with our old co-op so i'm hoping this school will go just as well.
The meetings must not be on Wednesdays???
Good for you, I know how hard it is to want to volunteer and not be able to do at the level that you want.
We are so lucky to have you at our school!
