Coordination and Flexiblity

Dev has started Gymnastics at our local Rec Center on Tuesdays. It's taught by Cascade Elite Gymnastics where Nana takes her lessons at so we thought it would be good introduction for Dev. He loves it but like with everything else unfamiliar he thought he would not be as good as the other students including Pay who was just starting too. He did the same thing with soccer so I had to put some tough love in and give him a push.

We knew a few things going into this class:
  • Dev is coordinated. He has more coordination than I have seen on a little one either ever or I can't remember when. His moves are methodical and precise. I was/am clumsy so I can only attributed it to his athletic Daddy.
  • Dev has lots of energy. The boy can go and go with out stopping. We stopped naps awhile ago because if he napped then bed time would be a pain. We opted for early bedtime instead of napping.
  • My furniture could use a rest from Dev (and Nana) so them being in Gymnastics is a perfect release. I wish it was 4 days a week but one can dream, right?

Mr. Shy Guy standing behind Pay and Sophie. Pay is probably turning around to instruct Dev to sit down. She was just as confused to see Dev so intimidated by the class at first.

Dev being assisted on his roll. The first time he jumped up there and tried to do it himself. It took Miss Nor off guard as he was so shy and having to be pushed to do everything she was helping another student and ran back over to help Dev!

Froggy Jumps. Pay is sitting on her mat awaiting her turn.

Dev trying to get off his mat before his name was called. A true sign of how much he loved this class.

We went yesterday for our 2nd class and he didn't need me in there to push him any longer. I sat outside Madi and our other 2 recovering Lice heads. I watched him through the small glass on the door. He'd look back and wave to let me know he was doing okay. Pay couldn't be there because she was sick. We hope to see her next week as she loves Gymnastics too.

It's truly rewarding to see your kids excel and beam when they get something or they're doing an activity they truly love. As a parent this just warms my heart to see each of my children enjoy their lives and grow to be people who have passions and ambitions.

If only he would put all those skills into soccer. Then his Daddy would be so happy! =)
