Creepy Crawlies!!

So, I was debating whether or not to post about our Creepy Crawlies. Mainly because I feel like we have the Scarlet letter A on us with this curse. Yes, I call it a curse. The 1st Grade curse. Isa got in First Grade and now Nana.

Friday night, we discovered Nana had lice. We were enjoying Movie Night. We watched Space Buddies. During the movie, I noticed Nana itching like crazy. I asked her why she's itching so hard, she said "my head really itches!" I thought unfathomable unbloggy language things and told her to come here. I checked. Creepy Crawlies it was. So, then my obsessive compulsive disorder (self diagnosed of course) kicks into high gear. What the fudge? Not in my house.

Daddy started the picking. We had some Nix but it was expired 6/2008 so I sent Daddy out to get more. I was not messing around with these disgusting things. I wanted them gone. Daddy left and was back in 10 minutes (literally). We washed. We rinsed with Nix and let it sit for 10 minutes. I proceeded to check the other girls, Isa and Madi.

Isa and Madi shared the same brush. It was inevitable that they would get it in some form. They did. They each had a total of 2 bugs and some nits. I attributed to the Tea Tree Oil shampoo that I heard from my Sister in Law, Stephanie that lice detests. They both use the shampoo because of their dry scalp. Nana does not use it. So, she had some hard core picking ahead of her.

One louse can lay up to 100 eggs. And, the Nix stuff does not kill the nits (lice eggs). You literally have to search every strand of hair. Even when you find a nit the stuff is like glue. My girls have shoulder length hair and the nits live right at the root so you pull from the root and if it gets stuck then you lose it in the mess of hair in front of you. You have to be so methodical when searching it can make you crossed eyed.

We survived. Yesterday, we missed Kay's birthday party at Cascade Elite Gymnastics but they were so sweet to bring cuppycakes by for us anyway. The kids were bummed especially the Gymnast. Today, it's more cleaning. It's been since Saturday that we have not found any nits or creepy crawlies so we are happy but for the next month I'll be on watch for those little suckers.

There is nothing you can do about getting the Creepy Crawlies! I think most families have had it once or twice. Haley had it in first grade too! What's up with that?? I so feel for you!
