Balance

My new thing is keeping myself balanced. I'm chuckling to myself because I can already hear Husband saying "what do you know about that?" But I do know some things and I'm striving to be more balanced. I set high goals for myself and the kids and feel it is absolutely necessary to be involved in everything they do. I am pretty firm on that. I want them to feel that what they do is important and we as family care.

I also find myself spinning sometimes. Yes, picture me spinning in a circle and not going anywhere. Almost always, I can take a step back and re-group then all is well (ie coffee date, Mommy Time=reading a magazine in bed). I feel like these things are necessary in order to keep balanced. Now, I'm not saying I have to buy something to make myself feel balanced but even if I sit in my girlfriend's kitchen yacking about mindless stuff...I'm good. It's that brain break from what I need to get done that I crave in my spinning spells.

I just wanted to stress the importance of balance. And yes, I will practice what I preach. Always.

Things that help me cope with a busy schedule?
  • Lists
  • Post Its (highlight the level of importance of things on my list)
  • Chocolate...absolutely need chocolate on those hectic days.
  • Planner...omigosh, what would I do without it? I know...I need a crackberry.
  • Helpful kids (Isa and Nana) who can buckle little kids (Dev and Madi). I love them for it.

Now, what is my commitment to myself? To balance. Balance the craziness of life with the enjoyment of my life.

How will I do this?

  • Movie Night...sometimes we slack when we're busy. We've been awesome so far but I'm committed.
  • Keeping to my home days Tuesdays (used to Mondays but Dev has school then, now) and Thursdays. Home Days=stay at home and catch up (laundry, blogging, emailing-oh wait, I do that everyday!).
  • Family Day-Saturday (used to be Sundays but we have soccer now so it works out better this way).
  • Bedtime reading. Now that Isa's gotten older (and Nana) they like to read on their own. But, last week I discovered they enjoy me reading to them in my bed and letting the little ones pick the book (or books depending the length). So, we're doing that too on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Incorporating more Lazy Days on our weekends...which would have to be Sunday.

Balance. Love it.

I love posts like this. :) Tips from the more experienced mommies are always, always appreciated. And I'm all about balance, too. And coffee. :)

I feel ya! It is so hard to stay balanced! Especially when all your plans are blown for the day because of sick kiddo's!

I really like this post! It's so true and something I need to work on is balance! Lists are my favorite thing right now - well actually the past year - doesn't it just feel so wonderful when you get to cross something off? Now I just need a planner. My kitchen calendar is a mess and I've just started using the calendar in outlook but it would be nice to have something portable.
