Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Nana's class is very artsy. They focus a lot on art techniques. They encourage learning through art. This class is perfect for Nana, our budding artist. We had no idea what class we would get into - it's just sort of where ever there is room when you're drawn from the school district lottery but we hit the jack pot with Sue, Nancy and Nina. They love Nana and nurture her love for art.

Today was their BIG Chinese New Year celebration! They did a Dragon Parade all through the school and around the front of the school for all in the neighborhood to enjoy! All the classes and families of students are invited to join the parade. Mr. Kelly and Mrs. Barber's Kindergarten full time classes joined in behind SND (Nana's class).

At the girls' school the classes are made of Primary - Intermediate and Middle School. So, Nana's class is 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders - 54 students in all with 3 teachers. The 3rd years (as they call them) are the head and body of the dragon. They lead the parade with the 1st and 2nd years following behind. Next year, Nana will be the head and body of the dragon (a big deal) in their class!

The kids were asked to wear red for prosperity and good luck.

Barney (the dragon).

All the 3rd years waiting to parade through the school!

My little loveys goofing off.

Nana Banana was so happy we came to cheer her on!

Coming down the hall we saw our cousin, Luc from Ohana.

And, Em was so excited to see Nana parade down the hall.

Nana with her dragon. Have I mentioned she loves to NOT match? She is a huge fan of LittleMismatched. She's sportin' their socks - she only wears these socks on "special" occasions.

Isn't that neat?

Nana trying to scare Madi with her dragon.

Sue and Nancy. When they got back to class they gave each child a gold coin in a red envelope, a fortune cookie (they weren't sure if this was traditional or not) and a satsuma to celebrate the New Year.

She was so excited for her red envelope!

Thank you, SND for inviting us to be a part of this special day.
