Here's my voluteering adventure via my mobile phone's camera. Excuse the blurriness - I'm working on how to still use this phone - I finally stopped answering it when it's upside down...baby steps, ya'll. Baby steps.
My Isa playing the game I brought for the class to do. Basically, the kids had 30 seconds to pick up as much candy as they could with chopsticks and place into dixie cup that would be theirs to consume. I wasn't sure what the response would be if they would think it was silly or non-interesting. BUT the kids loved it - even the 6th graders! Whew - I'm on the cool mom list...well, not really but you know what I mean.
Bella and Isa (Bella cut her hair - isn't it cute?). Dev was there and was bummed that Bella's brother, Jules wasn't there at the party. But, everyone loved his mohawk and Star Wars (the Clone Wars shirt) so they gave plenty of candy to keep him happy.
Isa eating her candy she won at the game with me - she was so sweet to Dev she let him sit on her lap during their Talent Show. Isa didn't participate, surprisingly - I thought she would've loved to sing (a Michael Jackson song) or play her violin. But she was happy watching her friends with their talents. The class is so supportive of each other. I love how they've built this mini-family within their group. The 4th graders have adapted so well with these big kids (meaning the 5th and 6th graders). Have I mentioned that I love this school?
Isa's advisory teacher, Kim (by chance she has Kim for everything except for science). The classes in Intermediate (4-5-6th graders) travel to different classes for different subjects preparing them for Middle School. ANYWAY, Kim got up there after so many years of not playing the flute and played. She was a great example to the kids that getting up there and doing what they love even if it's been a long time...the class will support them and cheer them.ON A SIDE NOTE: I think I say this every year but does the sugar ever end? I know Isa consumed more candy and sugar from their party this morning than she would have EVER had in a week. Normally the class is a NO SUGAR classroom except for parties. I guess when they allow it they allow it.
