Rollin' Deep...

Remember this trip?
Well, we did it again. We celebrated the August Birthdays - Madi (August 3rd + Grams, my Mom and Livi August 11th) and we added a few peeps this year. Okay, lots of peeps. Last year, it was my Mom, Dad, brother - Tyler and sister, Gab with Grams + us. This year it was them + the L4 (my Uncle and Aunt = their 2 kids, Luc and Livi), my brother - J.J. + his kids Jaydes and Jun. Um, are you keeping count?
That's 18. We roll deep.

My camera was acting funny on Madi's birthday so Grandpa Eddie let me borrow his camera. He has these snazzy lenses I have no idea how to work sooo...I apologize ahead of time.

This handsome man was our driver for the trip. He was our driving hero really. He drove from 10:00pm to 2:00pm the next day with a few stops in between - I drove from Susanville to Reno and that was it. Like I said, he's my hero.

We ate breakfast in Medford and cleaned up (brushed teeth and changed out of pjs) then geared up for the rest of the trip. Mountain driving. Mt. Shasta and Mt. Ashland considered yourselves conquered.

The kids were troopers. They make road tripping easy. They were patient with each other and good car sleepers. Love them.

My brother, J.J. - his son, Jun and Grams in my parents' car.

Troopers at Starbucks. They got their reading and workbooks done in the car with minimal whining. It was a productive trip I have to say!

Gas-in' up in Medford.

He still never gets used to having his gas pumped. I told him it's like a man holding a door open for you...at least for me, it can be awkward but kinda nice.

Weed, California - you win cleanest rest area award.

Isa was like a vampire for the early part of the trip getting used to the heat and sun. Seattle's summer has been sunless for the most part so she had some getting used to. I called her Bella and she smirked at me. I thought it was witty myself.

The rest were snoozing in the van/car and didn't make the picture opportunity.

California's Highway 89

The lone rider heading into Reno. She was awake for most of that ride so we chatted and she read me many stories.

Tips for Road Tripping with kids:

  • Coffee (for the parents obviously)

  • Water (notice coffee's first)

  • Readers/Books unless you get headaches like Isa then workbooks are in order

  • 2 DVD players for 2+ kids

  • iPods loaded with their favorite jams

  • ziplocs or dixie cups for sharing chips/cookies/candy makes it so everyone isn't diggin' in one bag and portion control.

  • #1 savior - not breaking routine. PJs when we headed out of Seattle and clothes to change into with toothbrushes so they feel human after riding in the car all night. Routine.

More to come...

I love road trips! Looks like fun!! You are very organized....loved the tips. P.s Ella has that same dress/outfit that Madi is wearing. Seems like they have lots of the same in their closets! Fun!!

I do love a good roadtrip!

Tip: I can't read very well, the polka dots are taking over and your comments link is orange and blends with the background. I need some coffee!

You are the genious about the ziplocks for your famous trail-mix idea. I forgot to tell you that worked SO great on our trip and prevented a lot of stops for food. Thanks for that!!
